Effective communication is essential for the management of organizations. Individuals within the organization may be involved in oral, written and visual communication with those above or below them in the organizational hierarchy, laterally with colleagues in other departments and externally. Effective interpersonal skills are required to overcome barriers to communication and to not only communicate with others but to enable them to communicate with you. Cultural factors and organizational structure can both create major barriers to communication, while increased use of electronic communication media provides ways of overcoming these but also poses problems of its own.
